Mikel González-Eguino

Mikel González-Eguino is an Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) and an Associate Professor at the University of the Basque Country (EHU). He holds a PhD in Economics and is an engineer by training. He has held visiting research positions at institutions such as MIT (USA) and Wageningen University (Netherlands). His research focuses on just energy transitions toward low-carbon societies, as well as on generating scientific evidence to inform climate policy. He regularly collaborates with European, Spanish, and Basque institutions in the design and assessment of public policies. His awards include the Enrique Fuentes Quintana Prize in Economics (FUNCAS, 2008) and the National Energy Prize (MITECO, 2025). Since 2021, he has been listed in Stanford University’s ranking of the world’s most-cited scientists.
