Diego Garcia

Diego García Gusano (PhD) earned his doctorate with magna cum laude distinction and European mention from Rey Juan Carlos University (Madrid), including a research stay at the Copernicus Institute (Utrecht). He also received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award (2014). He holds a degree in Experimental Physics (University of Cantabria) and a diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development (University of Oviedo), as well as two MSc degrees: Renewable Energy, Fuel Cells and Hydrogen (UIMP-CSIC) and Decision Engineering (URJC).
He has authored 28 Q1 journal articles, 5 books/chapters, supervised undergraduate and master theses and a PhD, and participated in numerous international conferences. With over 11 years of experience, his work focuses on energy planning and energy system modelling. He has held research positions at IFE (Norway) and IMDEA Energy, and previously worked in industry at INDRA and ATISAE (TÜV Süd).
He has contributed to many EU projects (e.g., COMET-FP7, SURETOOL, HYTECHCYCLING, SUN-TO-LIQUID). Since 2019, he is a Senior Researcher at TECNALIA, working on sustainable energy planning projects and regional energy strategies in Spain. He is also active in international networks such as the IEA Hydrogen TCP and Hydrogen Europe Research.
