Iñaki Arto is a Research Professor at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), where he coordinates the Low Carbon research line and leads the Assessment Methods and Tools research group. With more than 20 years of experience in climate, energy, and environmental economics, his work focuses on developing scientific tools and evidence to support effective public policy.

His expertise lies in the design of integrated economy-energy-environment databases and models to assess low-carbon transitions and their social, economic, and environmental implications. He has contributed to or led the development of major models and databases, including FIDELIO, DENIO, DERIO, WILIAM, Trade-SCAN, EXIOBASE, WIOD, FIGARO-E3, Forest-SCAN, and Agro-SCAN. These tools have helped inform the work of institutions such as the European Commission, the World Bank, FAO, WHO, and the Spanish and Basque governments.

His research has resulted in more than 150 publications, including 70 articles in peer-review journals, and extensive policy support activities, and he has been recognized in the Stanford-Elsevier Ranking of the World’s Top 2% Scientists.
